Is over scheduling keeping you from achieving your goals?
“You get to decide where your time goes. You can either spend it moving forward, or you can spend it putting out fires. You decide. And if you don’t decide, others will decide for you.”
I think of myself as a very driven person. I have big dreams which take lots of work, focus and determination to achieve. I want to do so many things at the same time, that I constantly feel unsatisfied with the amount of work I actually manage to get done. I realized that over booking myself is not working anymore. It leaves me frustrated and physically drained, plus it creates so much turbulence around me that I can’t focus on creating. Creating needs a peaceful environment and a still mind.
I had to learn to prioritize, and understand that I don’t have to get everything done in the same day. I also had to learn that it takes time to achieve my dreams, and that I can’t always be there for everyone putting myself last all the time. I decided to take a deeper look at this issue and resolve it at last.
I noticed that I am not the only one dealing with this very same problem. I see my clients struggling with this issue as well.
How can we create a life that is not too overwhelming and keeps the scale even between personal needs/goals vs career goals?!
I made up lists for 4 measures that are really important to me:
- List to nurture my health
- List to nurture my business/job
- List to nurture my dreams
- List to nurture my social life
I merged the lists and there it was; my new schedule. Better planned, less overwhelming, very organized, and full of awareness.
Have you ever done this for yourself? Have you ever made a schedule that didn’t just include your everyday tasks and responsibilities, but also the things that you need to do for yourself such as scheduling and preparing your meals and training sessions, or even your sleeping schedule and journaling? Have you included in your plans the tasks you want to do, to be able to grow and reach your wildest dreams? How about your social life?
If you haven’t yet given a shot to make a full list of your true desires for all areas of your life, start thinking about it and write it down. Make time for your desires, schedule them!
Organizing myself this way makes me feel more calm. It holds everything I truly want to do, and even allows me some time for being spontaneous to keep my adventurous soul roaring.
